Family forced to flee as drier blazes

A FAMILY of four were forced to flee their home when a tumble dryer caught fire.

Two fire engines from Rotherham Fire Station attended the burning kitchen appliance at a property on Oak Meadows, Eastwood, at around 11.45pm last night.

The family—two children and two adults—had already fled the property after being alerted to the blaze by a fire alarm.

A fire brigade spokesman said: “We were able to extinguish the blaze quite easily and the damage was confined to the tumble dryer itself.

“There was some smoke damage to the property but, thanks to the early warning provided by the fire alarm, it turned out to be a very minor incident.”
