Canal-side clean-ups helped by new “super-bin”
The cleaning kit has a special section with litter pickers and bags which volunteers can use for litter-picking.
It was unveiled at Ickles Lock in Rotherham by Don Catchment Rivers Trust’s regular volunteer group, which has been tidying up the towpath and surrounding areas for the past two years.

Sally Hyslop, community engagement officer for Don Catchment Rivers Trust, said: “Our volunteers have picked hundreds of bags of litter from the towpath so that people can enjoy walking, cycling and other activities on the waterside.
“Hopefully the new bin will encourage people to keep caring for this great green space.”
The superbin has been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund through Don Catchment Rivers Trust’s Living Heritage of the River Don project.
It will be maintained by Love Where You Live Rotherham, the Canal and River Trust and the Friends of the Don Valley Way.
