Dragon boat crews splash out for charity

TEN determined dragon boat crews had a splashing time paddling it out for charity.

Manvers Lake hosted the spectacular Dragon Boat Challenge on Sunday, which attracted a crowd of hundreds and saw the teams racing brightly-painted 30ft Chinese boats over a 200m course.

It was the Regen Rowers Keepmoat crew who came out on top, with the Plevin Supremes and Nicholas Associates boats second and third.

Regen Rowers crew memver Alex Chaudary (23) said: “It’s been really good being part of a huge community event and it's great that lots of local businesses are involved.

“As a resident of Wath, it is good to support local charities and it felt great to win in the final.”

The teams raised money for Rotherham based charity PHASE Worldwide, which helps isolated Himalayan Villages in Nepal, and Manvers Lake Trust.
