BIG LOCAL: The first Litter pick of the new year will be on Saturday 29th February meet in Gordon Bennett car park 10am, Free sandwich and drink for those taking part. Louise Johnson has started maternity leave but in her time with Big Local she has supported over 70 people looking for work and 35 have successfully found employment. This service will now be in the library Mondays 1.30 to 5 and Tuesdays 10 am to 12.30 Please contact Louise Jackson on 07970575516 for advice or an appointment. year will be on Saturday, February 29, meet in Gordon Bennett car park 10am, Free sandwich and drink for those taking part. A community skip will be placed on Arbour Drive Saturday, March 28 from 9am until 12 or until full. There are some restrictions on what can be put in the skip. There will be an easter egg hunt held on Good Friday followed by The Travelling Zoo at the Hub from 1 to 3. Letters will be given to all school children of times etc. A meeting was held in The Gordon Bennett to discuss plans on how to commemorate VE day it was attended by representatives of The Parish Council, Big Local, Parish Church, The Miners Institute and local schools. The proposals are on Thursday, May 7 for the schools to come together and organise a party for the children, the street party on Katherine Street is on Friday, May 8 for all residents of the village, this will be dependant if we are allowed a temporary road closure. Saturday, May 9 there will be a tea dance in the Gordon Bennett which will be in the afternoon with a family disco in the evening. Sunday church service followed by parade to cenotaph then on to the sports ground at the hub for family picnic fun day for sports games etc will be held . Various groups will make bunting so we can decorate our streets. We would be grateful to any suggestions/ ideas you may have and if you want to become involved or help in anyway contact the Parish Council or Big local or volunteers. WICKERSLEY VILLAGE BOWLING CLUB: Situated in Wickersley Park, just behind the health centre is the bowling green. We have a well maintained green with a pavillion on site. Green opens March 23 2020. New members are always welcome both young and old so come and join us. If you do not want to play just pop in and watch. There is plenty of seating available so why not take a look or better still have a go! Tea and Coffee are also available. Free lessons with qualified teacher on Saturday mornings 10am-12noon.
