Denis MacShane faces new police probe over expenses

SCOTLAND Yard is re-visiting an investigation into expense abuses by ex-Rotherham MP Denis MacShane.

Police will examine a report by the House of Commons Standards and Privileges Committee which revealed last week that Dr MacShane had made 19 false claims to the value of £7,500.

Officers will then decide whether to re-open a criminal investigation which was initiated in 2010 but dropped in July this year.

The move has been welcomed by Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, who urged officers to act independently of Parliament.
