Denis MacShane cleared in expenses probe

ROTHERHAM MP Denis MacShane has had his Labour party suspension lifted after being cleared by the Metropolitan Police of fiddling his expenses.

A spokesman for the force said it had decided to take no further action against Dr MacShane over the allegations, which were first made three years ago.

The Labour Party whip, which was suspended when the police investigation started, has also been restored to the MP.

The MP was referred to Scotland Yard by the parliamentary authorities in September 2010 after concerns were raised over thousands of pounds of spending on laptops.

He also faced questions over bills for a constituency office which was in the garage of his South Yorkshire home.
