Death of Maltby woman “not suspicious”

POLICE have released a Maltby man arrested in connection with his wife's death five months ago after deciding that her death was not suspicious.

Alan Walker (60) was arrested last December after Christine Walker (58) — known to her neighbours as Val — was found dead at their home on Gladstone Road.

Officers spent two days combing the house for clues, before arresting Mr Walker on suspicion of murder and releasing him on bail.

An initial postmortem investigation, carried out in December, was described by police as “inconclusive”.

But a spokeswoman said on Wednesday that Mr Walker had now been released without charge, following further tests.

She said: “Following extensive toxicological and pathological investigation, South Yorkshire Police officers are satisfied that the death of 58-year-old Christine Valerie Walker from Maltby is not suspicious.

“A 60-year-old man arrested in connection with Mrs Walker’s death has been released without charge. A file has been prepared for the coroner.”
