Dearne firefighter bids to win a wedding

A Dearne based bride-to-be is bidding to bag bucket loads of cash to help sick and underprivileged children in South Yorkshire.

Firefighter Angie Thorpe (42), is one of six brides competing to win a wedding and honeymoon package by raising as much money as possible for radio station Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids charity.

Angie, who is based at Dearne fire station, has already got her fundraising efforts off to a grand start through supermarket bag packing, bucket collections and a sponsored cycle whilst wearing a wedding dress.

But this weekend she is upping the ante as the pre-nuptial charity contest reaches its crescendo.

Tomorrow, she joins fellow female firefighters and firefighters’ wives on a charity bike ride from Dearne fire station to South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue's headquarters on Eyre Street, Sheffield  all in full fire kit.

On Saturday, Angie will be doing an abseil at the Magna science centre.

Angie said: “My fiancée Brian and I really wanted to do something meaningful to help underprivileged children in South Yorkshire and have a bit of a fun at the same time.

“The fact that we could win our wedding at the end of it all us just a bonus.

“We’d love it if people could come and support us during the abseil on Saturday and donate whatever they are able to this really worthy cause.”

The fundraising bonanza ends on Sunday night, when the six couples’ totals will be totted up and the wedding prize winners declared.
