Dearne drivers warned to be savvy, not sorry

Police are urging drivers to be more savvy when it comes to security after cars were targeted in Thurscoe and Darfield on the same night.

Officers said that in six out of eight cases of thefts from motor vehicles overnight between Monday and Tuesday, the vehicle was unlocked.

A sat nav, mini disc player, power tools, alloys and number plates were all among the items stolen.

Chief Insp Andy Hodgkinson, of South Yorkshire Police, appealed to motorists not to make life easy for criminals.

“New fobs mean that drivers don’t physically have to put the key in the lock when they secure their vehicle,” he said.

“We’d urge them to check that the vehicle is locked at night and then keep keys out of sight.”
