Yobs set light to hay bales

AROUND 60 hay bales went up in flames after arsonists struck in a farmer’s field.

A crew from Rotherham fire station attended the blaze off Spencer Drive, Ravenfield, following calls from concerned witnesses at around 11.45pm last night.

Two jets of water were used to extinguish the fire which occupied firefighters for an hour and a half.

A fire service spokesman said: “Deliberately started fires like this not only take up valuable fire service resources, they can also threaten lives and property.”
