Witness of attempted Trans-Pennine Trail robbery appeal

WITNESSES are being sought after an attempted robbery on the Trans-Pennine Trail near Conisbrough.

They want to track down two men who approached a 40-year-old man who was riding his bicycle along the route at 1.55pm on May 8.

South Yorkshire Police say that as the man pushed his bike over the viaduct bridge from Cadeby towards Conisbrough, he was approached by two unknown men.

A police spokesman said: “Officers received reports that one of the men asked for the time and enquired about the man’s bicycle, before punching him in the face several times. The man managed to defend himself and run away from the men, pulling his bike along with him.”

The first unknown man is described as white, around six feet tall and of slim build. He was thought to be in his early 20s with very short dark hair. He was wearing a dark, short-sleeved t-shirt with jeans.

The second man is described as white and around five feet eight inches tall. He is also believed to be in his early 20s. He was wearing a dark burgundy long-sleeved hooded top with a large pocket at the front and dark coloured jeans.
