Wath murder latest: family speak of devastation

THE FAMILY or Wath murder victims Jean and Sarah Redfern have said they are devastated by their deaths.

The bodies of the mother and daughter were discovered by police at the family bungalow in Sandygate, Wath at 7pm on Monday.

Police arrested Peter Redfern (70) and charged him with two counts of murder today.

Postmortem results revealed that Jean Redfern suffered asphyxiation and her daughter died from severe head injuries.

Jean and Sarah’s family released a statement saying that they were devastated by the news of their deaths.

“Jean was a much loved sister and aunt, while Sarah was a wonderful, kind and loving niece and cousin,” they said.

“We are at a loss to know why they died, but ask as a family that we are allowed to grieve and try to come to terms with what has happened.”
