UPDATED: Four arrested and Broom road closed after chemical substances found

FOUR men have been arrested on suspicion of drugs production following a police-led operation at an address in Broom.

FOUR men have been arrested on suspicion of drugs production following a police-led operation at an address in Rotherham.

Police said a man was in custody after being arrested when chemicals were found at the address in Broom Valley Road this morning.

Chief Supt Rob Odell said the house was suspected to have been used to produce class A drugs, possibly methamphetamine or "crystal meth", although the chemicals are currently being analysed .

Three other men had also been arrested outside South Yorkshire, he said.

South Yorkshire Police, supported by officers from South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue, Yorkshire Ambulance Service and Rotherham Borough Council, closed the road at about 9am.

A spokeswoman said a cordon had been put in place after chemical substances were found but there was no risk to the wider community.
