Two-storey house deliberately set on fire

A HOUSE was deliberately set on fire in the early hours of the morning and police are appealing for information.

Firefighters tackled the blaze at the two-storey house on Greasbrough Road, near the Parkgate Inn pub, at around 2am on Saturday (8).

It is believed the house has been derelict for several months and no one was in the building at the time of the incident.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokeswoman said four engines attended and investigations revealed it was a deliberate attack.

Crews from Dearne, Barnsley and two crews from Rotherham were at the scene until around 5am.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “Police were called to reports of a house fire in Greasbrough Road at around 2.05am on Saturday, February 8.

“Nobody was in the property at the time.

“The incident is being treated as arson and enquiries are ongoing.”
