Two rescued by firefighters after “deliberate” blaze at property

POLICE are investigating after two people were rescued from a property last night following a blaze which is believed to have been started deliberately.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “Three fire crews from Dearne, Adwick and Cudworth stations attended a premise fire at 11.30pm on Merrill Road, Thurnscoe.

“Two people were rescued from the premises.

“The fire is believed to have been started deliberately."

Crews left the scene at 12.50am.

The two rescued people were not believed to have needed hospital treatment.

South Yorkshire Police also attended the incident.

A spokesperson for the force said: “An investigation is currently underway to establish the circumstances.

"Anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting incident number 1045 of October 1, 2023.”
