Three flee as chip pan sets kitchen alight

THREE people, including a young boy, escaped a house blaze in Bramley after a chip pan caught fire.

The three, a woman in her 40s, a young man in his late teens or early 20s and the boy aged nine or ten, managed to get out of the property on Gaunt Drive before fire crews arrived at 1.40am on Monday.

They were all taken to hospital as a precaution, but were unhurt. Firefighters also rescued a small dog from the house.

A South Yorkshire fire service spokeswoman said the fire started after a chip pan was left unattended when a person in the house had fallen asleep.

“Three people got out of the house after a smoke alarm, which the service had fitted, sounded and alerted them to the fire,” the spokeswoman said.

“A little Shih Tzu dog was left inside and firefighters went in and got the dog out. It was absolutely fine.”

Fire damage was confined to the kitchen while the rest of the house was affected by smoke.
