Terrified children see mother attacked on railway station

BRITISH Transport Police are appealing for witnesses and information after a mother was assaulted in front of her two children on a rail platform

The incident occurred between 3.20pm and 3.30pm last Tuesday when a woman approached the victim, a 22-year-old from Rotherham, on the platform at Thurnscoe Railway Station.

Inspector Graham Bridges said: “The victim was waiting at the station for her train heading to Rotherham when another woman began to verbally abuse her.

“The woman then continued her attack and began to punch the victim several times in the face causing injuries to her eye and bruising to her face.

“The victim later attended Barnsley General Hospital where she was treated for her injuries, including a small cut under her left eye.”

Officers are now viewing CCTV at the station and in the area, as well as speaking to the local community to build a full picture of what took place.

Inspector Bridges added: “This must have been extremely traumatising for the victim’s two young children who were understandably terrified by what had happened.
