Teenage robber locked up for 18 months

A 16-year-old boy who robbed two teenagers of their mobile phones has been sentenced to 18 months in a young offenders institution.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was brought before magistrates after two robberies in Rotherham town centre last autumn.

Rotherham Magistrates court heard how one of the victims, a 17-year-old boy, had his Samsung phone stolen after being punched in the stomach as he walked through the car park of Tesco Extra, near to St Anne’s Roundabout, at about 5.30pm on Sunday, September 27, last year.

The second victim, a 17-year-old boy, had his Samsung mobile taken while walking along Boswell Street on Tuesday, November 17, last year.

Magistrates instructed the boy to pay a £380 surcharge to his victims.
