SEX ATTACKS: Man arrested

The 26-year-old local man was arrested in Moorgate this morning (Monday) on suspicion of rape. He remains in custody, where detectives are questioning him.

Three young women were assaulted by a lone male within two hours spanning Friday night to Saturday morning.

One was approached on Green Lane, opposite Rotherham General Hospital, between 11pm and 11.30pm on Friday.

She was physically and sexually assaulted before her attacker dragged her on to Moorgate Road, where bystanders intervened.

Det Supt Lisa Ray, who is leading the investigation, described the crime as “an horrendous and terrifying attack”.

A lone man then broke into a house just a few streets away at around 1am Saturday. Inside he attacked two women, the younger one sexually.

A police spokeswoman confirmed that officers are not currently looking for any other suspects.

She added that officers will continue making enquiries and high visibility patrols in the area.
