Rotherham booze outlets warned over under-age drink sales

POLICE are going undercover to catch Rotherham pubs and off-licences serving underage drinkers.

Supt Shaun Morley, of South Yorkshire Police,  said the force would be carrying out test purchases during December, adding: “We will target places where we have intelligence to suggest they are serving to underage people.

“We hope hope they will think twice about serving someone that looks underage without a valid form of ID.”

Failing premises will face fines, closures and prosecution.

Nearly a quarter of the places tested in Barnsley failed during November.
