Mrs Wilson said Lee (42), who has a visual impairment, was uninjured but had suffered a panic attack on Monday.

“He just had to get out of his house to clear his mind and so went and booked into a hotel in Sheffield,” Mrs Wilson said.

“He didn’t mean to stay away and cause any trouble to anybody.

“He caught a bus to Derbyshire on Tuesday.

“I’ve not found out yet what’s caused him to go.

“He’s the type of person who dwells on things instead of speaking to people.”

Mrs Wilson said she was very relieved to have her only son home safely, adding: “I am very grateful for what everybody has done, I didn’t realise, and I don’t think Lee did, how many great friends he’s got.”
