Prisoner on run 'heading for Rotherham'

POLICE are appealing for information regarding the whereabouts of a 37-year-old prisoner after he absconded from jail.

Shaun Battye had been granted temporary release from HMP Rochester, Kent, to work as part of his prison sentence on September 3, but failed to return later that day.

Now officers in South Yorkshire believe that he could be headed to Rotherham and appealing for help in tracking him down.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said: “Battye is believed to be travelling from Kent to the South Yorkshire area as he has family in Rotherham, Doncaster and Sheffield.

“He is described as being a white man, 5ft 9in tall, with blue eyes and mousey brown hair. He is stocky build and has a Yorkshire accent.”

Battye was wearing prison-issue green work trousers over blue jeans, a striped t-shirt and a high visibility jacket at the time he went missing.

He is also known to use the alias name of Tristan Lea.
