Police welcome new behaviour code

SOUTH Yorkshire Police has welcomed a new code of ethics setting standards of behaviour the public can expect from officers and staff.

Chief Constable David Crompton said: “It sets out a national standard and will guide ethical decision-making in the complex policing environment.”

The College of Policing’s nine principles include accountability, fairness, honesty and leading by example.

South Yorkshire Police Commissioner Shaun Wright said: “The code of ethics sets out what good policing looks like. I’m confident that, for the vast majority, this means business as usual.”
