Police to tweet antisocial behaviour incidents

TRICK or tweet? Police will take to Twitter this weekend in an effort to help Rotherham residents prevent trouble.

Officers will tweet every incident of antisocial behaviour reported between noon and midnight on Friday.

The Friday before Bonfire Night is one of South Yorkshire Police’s busiest days for reports of antisocial behaviour, a spokesman said.

This year the force is responding with a day of action, including high-visibility patrols, visits to firework retailers preventing sale of fireworks to under-18s, Trojan bus operations and search warrants.

Police are also working with firefighters and local authorities to provide activities to keeping young people busy over the Hallowe'en and Bonfire Night period.

Chief Insp Colin McFarlane said: “We know antisocial behaviour can have an impact on how safe and secure people feel and as a Force we are committed to tackling it.”
