Police take the bus to crack down on yobs

A BUS full of police officers has been touring weekend anti-social behaviour hotspots in Denaby, Conisbrough, Mexborough and Edlington.

They seized 186 units of alcohol and eight bags of cannabis over two nights, issuing 48 warnings and two fines.

Sgt Daren Cawley, from the Conisbrough and Denaby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “The Friday night was the busiest and when most of the seizures were made.

“The groups of young people we engaged with had no idea that it was police on the bus and we were able to make a significant impact throughout all of the areas, so much so that on the Saturday night, there was very little activity proving the operation to have been a success.

“The bus drivers on both nights were extremely helpful and by Stagecoach working in partnership with us, we have been able to achieve these great results.”

Police put in place a three-year Designated Public Place Order for Conisbrough and Denaby earlier this month.

It prevents booze being consumed in public places and allows officers to confiscate drinks and arrest people failing to comply.
