Police hunt Rotherham bank scam duo

POLICE are searching for two suspected fraudsters who attempted to bank cheques worth almost £20,000 across South Yorkshire and elsewhere.

POLICE are searching for two suspected fraudsters who attempted to bank cheques worth almost £20,000 across Rotherham and elsewhere.

The two men tried to deposit six cheques from a Lancaster solicitor at counters and automated machines between June 10 and July 11 last year with mixed success, netting almost £8,000.

On July 9 one suspect presented a cheque with a value of £2,500 at a Dinnington bank and another worth £2,750 at a bank in Wickersley, both of which were accepted.

He banked a third on July 11 in Bawtry, but was challenged by staff who did not accept it.

Anyone who believes they know the identity of the men in these CCTV images are asked to contact police on 101, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting crime reference number A/66798/2011.
