Police chief rejects MacKenzie's call for apology

SOUTH Yorkshire police chief David Crompton has rejected demands for an apology from former Sun editor Kelvin MacKenzie over the Hillsborough disaster.

The force this week received a letter from Kelvin MacKenzie’s lawyers which demanded an apology to him following shock revelations about lies told to journalists by police about Liverpool fans 23 years ago.

But Mr Crompton said: “We have publicly apologised to the Hillsborough families and the Liverpool fans but we will not apologise to Mr MacKenzie.

“He chose to write his own headline and he should accept responsibility for it.”
