Police appeal after football fans' station fight

VISITING Derby County fans ran across tracks at Rotherham railway station to fight with rival fans.

It followed the Millers’ 3-3 draw with the Rams at New York Stadium on March 12.

Around 30 Derby fans on a train at platform 1 argued with Rotherham fans on the opposite platform at about 6.30pm.

A few left the train, ran across the tracks and a fight involving about 10 people broke out, British Transport Police said.

PC Ewan Brechin said: “This type of violent behaviour is completely unacceptable and must have been extremely distressing and unpleasant for other passengers at the station.

“We are committed to stamping out football-related antisocial behaviour on the rail network and are doing all we can to identify the individuals concerned and bring them to justice. 

“If you were at the station and witnessed the incident, please come forward and contact us as you may have information with could help us to do this.”
