Man quizzed over "racist" finger-chopping attack

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of chopping off another man’s finger in a racist assault.

The 23-year-old, from Rotherham, was arrested for racially-aggravated grievous bodily harm for the attack.

He has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Two men attacked the 31-year-old victim at the BP garage on Herringthorpe Valley Road just before 6am on Saturday, February 27.

He had been dropped off by a taxi to use the cash machine at the garage, when the two attackers approached.

The first is reported to have punched the victim several times in the face, before the second used meat cleaver to injure his hand.

The attackers then left the scene in a dark-coloured vehicle.

The first man is described as white and of tall, slim build. The victim was unable to provide a description of the second man.

Officers urge anyone with information to call them on 101, quoting incident 223 of February 27.
