Man charged after police officer knocked unconscious

POLICE have charged a 22-year-old man with assault and threats to kill, following an incident in which an on-duty officer was knocked unconscious.

Jamie Lee Winter, of Farquhar Road in Maltby, was due to appear at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court today (Thursday).

The charge relates to an incident on Tuesday night at Farquhar Road, in which the officer was knocked out.

He regained consciousness and was taken to hospital, but is not thought to have suffered serious injuries.

A 24-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender in connection with the incident.

Police have thanked Maltby residents for their help and support.
