Man arrested over train sex attack

A 38-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an alleged sexual assault on a train travelling between Sheffield and Rotherham Central.

Officers from the British Transport Police arrested and questioned the man in Rotherham on Monday following the incident in which an 18-year-old girl was reportedly “touched inappropriately” while travelling on the busy route on October 29.

The arrest came after BTP issued a public appeal for information.

Speaking on Tuesday, a BTP spokesman said: “Thanks to vital information from the public and assistance from the media, we were able to arrest a man yesterday.

“The man was interviewed by detectives and has since been released on police bail, due to return on December 2.”
