Lone woman flees burning building in Wombwell

ONE Wombwell tenant had a lucky escape after a tea light set fire to her curtains on Monday night.

The lone lady had fled the burning Park Street flat when firefighters arrived shortly before midnight.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have issued advice on how to prevent candles from causing fire in the home.

A spokesman said: “We advise householders to keep candles away from curtains and not to leave them unattended in an unoccupied room.

“Candles should be in secure holders which will not fall over — tea lights should be in holders or on a heat-resistant surface.

“When no longer needed both should be completely extinguished and not left smouldering.”
