Loft of Flanderwell bungalow goes up in flames

THE loft space of a bungalow went up in flames in an early hours blaze that prompted action from three teams of firefighters.

Crews from Rotherham, Maltby and Edlington attended the property at Forrester Close, Flanderwell, after fire broke out at around 1.20am on Monday.

The occupants, a man and a woman believed to be in their 50s, had already fled the property when firefighters arrived.

A fire brigade spokeswoman said: “The property’s roof space was well ablaze but the teams managed to confine the fire to that area.

“Unfortunately, some damage was caused to the property due to the water used in order to extinguish the blaze.”

The spokeswoman said that the bungalow’s occupiers were checked over by paramedics at the scene, adding that firefighters remained at the scene until shortly before 5am.

She added: “Investigations are ongoing but we understand that the fire was caused by an electrical fault.”
