“After an exchange of comments between the two males, the victim walked away, but noticed the man started to follow him in the silver Astra.

“The victim attempted to run away, but it is alleged that the man drove the vehicle ahead of him, got out and punched the victim in the ribs before getting back into the car and driving away.

“There was no attempt to abduct the boy.”

The spokeswoman said that a woman had been seen walking down Stafford Drive, in the direction of Bawtry Road.

“She was walking down the hill and crossed over to Shoreham Drive when she noticed the victim,” she added.

“The victim kept his head down and continued to walk up Shoreham Drive onto Stafford Drive away from the woman.

“Officers would like to speak to this woman and anyone else who may have seen what happened or has information about this incident.”

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection and is helping officers with their enquiries.
