Hunt for armed raiders after Rotherham pub staff robbed

THREE pub workers were battered by armed robbers who escaped with £1,700 after attacking the trio in a Rotherham alley.

The staff, two men and a woman were confronted by two men wielding bats shortly after they locked up the Turf Tavern pub, on Corporation Street, in the early hours.

The robbers demanded cash before assaulting all three victims and escaping with a handbag containing £1,700 in cash, mobile phones and other items from the female victim.

All three staff were taken to hospital where one, a 39-year-old man, was treated for rib injuries. His colleagues, a 34-year-old man and a woman, aged 22, suffered facial injuries.

A police spokesman asked anyone with information about the robbery to contact South Yorkshire Police by dialling 101 and quoting incident number 263 of  September 29.

One suspect is described as being 6ft tall and slim, the other is described as being approximately 5ft 9ins tall and of stocky build.

Both were believed to be wearing black hooded tops and black tracksuit bottoms, with dark coverings over their faces.
