“The fire spread to a fence and then a garage at the property. We would remind residents to site garden fires away from  houses, sheds and trees.”

Earlier, firefighters rescued a woman in her 40s after an unattended pan caused a house fire in Mexborough.

The resident was given oxygen at the scene but was not injured. Firefighters from Dearne were at Comelybank Drive for an hour from 7.15pm.
