Four teams tackle Eastwood garage blaze

FOUR teams of firefighters spent hours putting out a blaze in an Eastwood storage unit on Sunday.

Two crews from Rotherham station, one from Dearne and one from Elm Lane tackled the fire in a garage on Fitzwilliam Road.

Staff first attended at around 4.50pm, staying late into the evening, trying to make the building safe.

Structural engineers are inspecting the unit, as they fear the gable end of the building may collapse, a fire service spokeswoman said.

The burned garage is thought to have contained rugs and carpets. The cause of the fire is not yet known — an investigation is currently underway.
