Fires scares for homeowners

A 60 year-old man was treated for smoke inhalation after his bathroom airing cupboard caught fire.

The accidental fire was caused by a heat build up at the residential property on Sycamore Drive in Thurcroft.

The incident occurred on Monday (16) around 4.45pm and crews from Rotherham and Aston attended.

Firefighters used a hose reel to tackle the smoke, and the fire was contained within the cupboard.

The female occupant was outside the property when crews arrived, but the man remained inside trying to open windows to let the smoke out.

Paramedics took the man to hospital for a precautionary check-up and firefighters left the scene at 5.30pm.

Another accidental fire at a residential property also broke out at the same time on Salisbury Road in Maltby on Monday.

Crews from Edlington and Doncaster attended to find the kitchen smoke-filled after a suspected fault with the electric box.

Firefighters used fans and a hose reel to deal with the fire, no one was injured and they left the scene at 5.30pm.
