Firefighters tackle large blaze throughout the night

AN INVESTIGATION is underway after a large fire broke out at an unused building.

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called to the scene at Queen Street, Swinton at 6.45pm last night (October 26).

At the height of the fire six engines – from Edlington, Dearne, Tankersley, Cudworth and two from Rotherham – were at the scene.

The building was an unused, detached, single storey building.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: “The firefighters worked hard to prevent the fire spreading to near by buildings.”

The majority of crews left the scene around midnight, but appliances returned throughout the night to ensure the fire had not reignited.

An investigation will now take place to determine the cause of the fire.
