Fire crews battle Wellgate takeaway fire

FIREFIGHTERS spent two hours tackling a fire at a Wellgate takeaway, which also engulfed an upstairs flat.

Two crews from Rotherham station arrived at around 5am on Saturday, finding the occupants already outside.

They used hose reels to put out the fire, leaving the scene at around 7am.

Investigators do not yet know how the blaze started, but suspect an electrical fault.

No-one in the building sustained any injuries.

This morning one crew from Maltby put out a burning car at Abbey Lane, Slade Hooton.

Firefighters attended at around 5.30am, finding the Renault Clio under a bridge, blocking the road.

They used a hose reel to extinguish the blaze, leaving the scene around half an hour later.

The fire is thought to have been started deliberately.
