Elderly council tenant robbed by bogus caller posing as housing worker

A COUNCIL tenant was robbed in his home by a bogus caller posing as a housing worker, RMBC said.

Residents were urged to be vigilant after the incident last Friday afternoon in which an elderly man was targeted by an offender claiming to be there to check for damp and mould.

Ian Spicer, Rotherham Council’s director for housing, said: “We are working with police to swiftly apprehend this individual.

“I urge everyone to make sure any visitors have valid identification and if you have any concerns about bogus callers, you should also contact police by calling 101 or 999 if in immediate danger.

“For people who have Rothercare installed and need assistance to do this, please contact the Rothercare team who will report the matter to police for you.”
