Drugs recovered after 100mph chase with child in car

A MAN and woman from Rotherham were arrested after a 100mph police chase up the A1 — with a three-year-old child in the car.

Officers also found a large amount of suspected cannabis in the Audi A4 after the 45-mile pursuit on Tuesday (17) afternoon.

The vehicle weaved between traffic and onto the hard shoulder and was finally stopped near Boston Spa, West Yorkshire. A man (31) and woman (22) were arrested at the scene.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “At around 4.25pm, officers began following a grey Audi A4 that failed to stop for them on the northbound carriageway near Catterick.

“The vehicle then continued north through roadworks before leaving the motorway at Scotch Corner and then returned to the A1, heading back on the southbound carriageway.

“A number of motorists will have witnessed the suspect vehicle's manner of driving and officers are appealing to them to come forward including any that were hit by the vehicle.

“Some motorists have come forward already and officers are trying to trace others.”

Witnesses were asked to contact the force’s Harrogate Serious Crime Team.
