Drug raids in Mexborough gangs crackdown

DRUG raids were carried out today in an area of Mexborough blighted by crime gangs.

Police confirmed three warrants had been executed in the Schofield Street area as part of Operation Trough, which is targeting organised crime and drug-related violence.

Insp Richard Collingwood would not say if any drugs had been seized or arrests made but said the operation was ongoing and urged any residents to be vigilant and pass on information about drug crime to call Crimestoppers anonymously on 101.

Last November, five gang members were barred from travelling with golf clubs or baseball bats in their cars after they were issued with injunction orders.

The four men aged 20, 22, 24 and 30 and one 27-year-old woman were told they faced prison if they breach the terms of the injunction, which also included a curfew and barred them from certain streets in Mexborough.

Police announced last summer that they had charged 21 people with offences ranging from arson and criminal damage to assault and other violent crimes in relation to trouble between two gangs around the Schofield Street, Oliver Street and Windhill areas.
