Driver and passenger die following collision near Elsecar

TWO people died at the scene of a car crash close to an industrial history centre following a collision with trees.

A black Subaru was involved in an accident at 6.20pm on Thursday (December 22) along Broadcarr Road in Hoyland.

The driver, a 49-year-old man, and the front-seat passenger, a 19-year-old woman, died at the scene, police confirmed.

Officers said the car had travelled from the direction of Sheffield Road towards the Elsecar Heritage Centre when it left the road at a bend and collided with some trees.

A spokesperson for the police said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who was travelling in the area at the time and captured the Subaru on their dash-cam prior to the collision, to come forward.
