Discarded cigarette causes Catcliffe fire

THREE houses were evacuated after a wheelie bin fire affected a street’s gas supply.

The blaze, on Nunnery Crescent in Catcliffe, is believed to have been caused by a discarded cigarette.

Firefighters were at the scene for nearly three hours after being called out at 10.20pm on Saturday (27). The cause was recorded as accidental.

Crews from Cudworth, Barnsley and Dearne stations attended a similar incident in Darfield the same evening.

A deliberate blaze in a garage on Padua Rise spread to the gas pipes of a detached property.

Aston station attended a grass fire on Church Street, Dinnington, on Saturday afternoon. It was recorded as accidental.

Firefighters also attended deliberate blazes on Steel Street in Holmes, where a fridge was on fire outside a house on Sunday evening, and a car fire on Centenary Way at Canklow on Friday night.
