Diners evacuated from curry house blaze

AN INDIAN restaurant was evacuated last night while firefighters tackled a suspected arson in its basement.

Three appliances from Dearne, Edlington and Rotherham attended Spice Library on Bank Street, Mexborough, at around 7.50pm.

Around a dozen diners were led from the premises while crews used hose reels to put out furniture that was alight in the underground space.

Firefighters left the restaurant at around 8.45pm.

A fire service spokesman said that the fire is thought to have been started deliberately.
