Cyber crime police search Thurnscoe house

POLICE investigating cyber-crime searched a Dearne Valley house this week.

The force said the visit to the Thurnscoe property was part of enforcement operations during national Cyber Crime Week.

South Yorkshire Police officers supported the National Crime Agency and the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Cyber Crime Unit during the week of action.

Officers served a letter to the Thurnscoe resident — suspected of being involved in the purchase of malware (malicious software) — and advised them of the consequences of being prosecuted for such offences, which include up to ten years in prison.

Two homes in Barnsley and two in Sheffield were also visited.
