Crime fighters praised by police chief

DEARNE VALLEY residents have been thanked by a senior police officer for their part in helping to tackle “horrible” crime.

Supt Eddie Murphy said there were 202 burglaries across the borough last October but in 2013, the figure fell to 154.

He said: “This means that there were 48 fewer victims of this horrible type of crime and we’ve seen a marked reduction in the number of offences committed due to people leaving either doors or windows insecure.

“I would like to thank the public for taking the extra precautions and making it even harder for criminals.”

Mr Murphy did however warn householders to keep security at the forefront of their minds, especially with Christmas approaching.

“It’s unfortunate, but we do have certain people walking round looking for an easy target,” he said.

“Please don’t be their prey.”
