Crews tackle blazes across Rotherham

WHEELIE bins, hay and trees were all deliberately torched in separate arson incidents around the borough.

The fires were all started on Thursday night with firefighters first being called to Kimberworth Park Road in Kimberworth at 6.20pm.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said two wheelie bins had been set on fire and a crew from Rotherham station was at the scene for 15 minutes.

Shortly after hay in a Thorpe Hesley field on Lodge Lane was set on fire which a crew from Elm station brought under control in 30 minutes.

Arsonists struck again at 10pm in Mexborough around the Melton Street area after setting fire to trees and garden waste.

A Dearne station crew was at the scene for 20 minutes.
