Cop drop-in event for estate residents tomorrow

RESIDENTS living on an estate blighted by anti-social behaviour are invited to attend a community clinic tomorrow to discuss policing in their area.

St John’s Green in Kimberworth Park was identified as a priority area by police at a recent community safety meeting.

A spokeswoman said the force had put in a number of initiatives to tackle anti-social behaviour, including letters informing residents how to report antisocial behaviour, CCTV cameras and youth intervention work.

Rotherham Central Police Community Support Officer John Bellamy said: “St John’s Green was selected as a local policing priority based on feedback we’ve had from residents about problems with antisocial behaviour.

“We recognise what a negative impact this type of activity has on residents so we’ve put a number of measures in place to try and deter and disrupt criminal activity and are working with partners to achieve this.”

He added: “So far, over the last two months, we have issued a number of antisocial behaviour contracts, civil injunction warning letters and have also increased patrols in the area.

“Our community safety officers have visited the area to carry out a crime reduction survey which looks at things that we can do to make the area more attractive including removing graffiti, cutting back overgrown boundaries and replacing broken windows.

“We’ve also conducted police-led operations and continue to hold monthly community clinics where we encourage local residents to come and talk to us about any policing issues affecting them.”

The community clinic will take place tomorrow (June 22) from 1pm until 2.30pm at St John’s Green housing office, Kimberworth Park, S61 3JL.

Representatives from Rotherham Central LPT will be on hand to offer crime prevention and personal safety advice as well as answer questions.
